There are two ways to log onto your account on the server. The first is from a desktop computer, like the one you will find in the Library or Computer Lab. The second way to log on is from a laptop.
From a desktop computer, log in by entering your name in the following order: Last Name, space First Name. Then, in the next field, you type your password.
To log off, go to apple and then to Logout in the file menu. Select Logout. Tip: If you press the apple and the letter Q on the keyboard, you will also be logged out.
How to Make a Folder in your Documents Folder:
Double click on the folder on your desktop with your name on it. a window should pop-up. This is your Documents folder window. To make a new folder in your folder hold down the apple, or the command key, shift and the letter N. This will make a new untitled folder. Type in whatever name you want to call your new folder.
Changing the name of a file (or folder):

To switch among the applications, hold down the apple or command key and press the tab button and the applications you open will appear simply click the tab and let go of both buttons and the application you kast tabbed on will open.
As an example, open Microsoft Word, open a new document, and type anything. Select File\Save , and the file dialogue box will open. Select "Your Folder " from the left side of the window. Double-click on the folder in the window you want to save to (you have logged on, haven't you?), then on your folder (you can click the new folder icon to make one if you don't have one already). Type a name besides "untitled" in the name window, and click Save.
Double click on the icon (on the desktop). Open both folders (the folder that the icon is in, and the folder you want to move the icon to). Click on the icon, and hold the mouse button down. Drag the icon to the new folder.
Copying a File (very different from a PC):
Double click on the icon (on the desktop). Open both folders (the folder that the icon is in, and the folder you want to copy the icon to). Hold the option key down (on the bottom of the keyboard), click on the icon, and hold the mouse button down. Drag the icon to the new folder. Let go of the mouse button and option key. If you drag the icon to an empty part of the same folder, a copy will appear there instead. Copy and Paste don't work this way with a Macintosh! You may also Duplicate the file or folder by Highlighting the folder depressing the apple or command key and the "D" key at the same time.
To minimize a window, either click the title bar or single-click on the yellow button in the upper-left corner of the window. You may also use the command or apple and "M" keys
Single-click the red button in the upper-left corner of the window. You may also use the apple or command and the "W" window.
Unlike the PC, a program can still be running after the window is closed. This confuses some people. Let's say you just closed a Safari window, and Safari is still running...select File/New Window to re-open the window.
The best way to increase, decrease or mute the the volume is to use the volume buttons just below the left side of your monitor.
If your application freezes (remember, we tell you to save frequently) then you need to force quit your application. In order to force quit the application, hold down the command option and escape keys at the same time. A window will pop up asking you what application you would like to force quit. Select the application from this window and click "Force Quit". When you are complete, close the window using the red button
On a Mac, closing a window doesn't close the application; you have to "quit" the application. Select "Quit" from the bottom of the Application menu, or press Command-Q.
If your computer is misbehaving, it may need to be restarted (rebooted). Select the Apple from the menu at the upper-left corner of the screen scroll down, and click on restart.
If your computer freezes up, and it doesn't unfreeze after a minute or so, hold down the white power button down for 10 seconds to shut it down. Wait a moment and press the power button again to start the computer again.
